Riding around Lake Illawarra – a video
July 24, 2019I have ridden the coast of Wollongong from Thirroul to Kiama all on decent cycleways. I have also ridden the north and south end of Lake Illawarra and loved it. But I have never done the loop and that is basically because everyone seems to ride on the edge of the motorway into Dapto. I think I solved that problem and its a 50km solution.
Note: I hate motorways, highways and big busy roads and would rather catch a train.
I put those thoughts out of mind, did some research and headed off early on a sunny winters day. An hour and half later, I rode around the lake, took lots of pictures and turned it into a video which follows now. Best viewed in full on a large screen. There are trail notes in the video.

I love this ride! But I usually do it in the oppostie direction and dispense with the Yallah detour.(not a fan of hills) If I ride the old road behind the Woolshed in Yallah into Haywards Bay, I miss alot of the busy highway (I hate busy roads too ) The rest of the route is on shared paths and quiet back streets. Thanks for featuring it in your blog.
